New pieces for First Friday in September

Gourd bowl with lid

It has been awhile since i updated this blog however I have been busy creating some new pieces for the September First Friday and Gallery Walk in Eau Gallie on September 1st.

I absolutely love the shape of this very round gourd pictured above.  It is just a perfectly round symmetrical gourd with no flat spots or irregular sides to it and stands on its own.  A little thin so I really could not carve it but perfect for pyrography, or wood burning.  I added an eggshell mosaic for texture around the rim and below the wood burned flowers, which are of course my favorite Florida flower – the hibiscus.  I left the stem, a perfect top for the lid.

Gourd basket with clay leaves and flowers

The second piece I completed was this quite large, very thick gourd that I carved into a basket.  It was wood burned, embellished with clay and painted with acrylic paints and inks.  It seemed like it took me forever to complete because of its size, there are actually twenty-two small clay flowers, each one having to sand seal and paint individually, not to mention all the leaves and larger flowers.   Whew, I was so happy to have this one done !

Gourd with sea grass and sea shells

These are the last two of my new gourds at the gallery. I also have three new gourd shard necklaces not pictured here.  Hope you will be able to attend First Friday and Gallery Walk in Eau Gallie this weekend !!

Thank you for visiting my blog, please leave a comment !!
