September 2019

It is that time of year again !! I rarely enter competitions online just because I do not have that much interest in social media and most of the time online voting requires a very active social media presence and following. However, Welburn Gourd Farm

posted their information about a Gourd Halloween contest I decided to enter this Halloween Gourd. He was fun to create using a gourd, cutting it, cleaning the inside, painting with acrylics and using some yellow tissue to cover the openings from the inside and adding a light in the back, so yes, he lights up too. I made the banner with paper and used a Martha Stewart punch for the letters. Here he is below – glowing !

If you want to see the entries and hopefully vote for my Halloween gourd I will post the link here when it is online . Ü

Above are a few egg gourd ornaments that I just completed. I will have my ornaments at three locations this year : Eau Gallery and Fifth Avenue Art Gallery in Eau Gallie and of course at the Beyond Useless Boutique in Sebastian. I have a few new designs this year and I will also be posting on my Instagram page as they are completed.

Thanks for visiting my page ! Leave a comment or question for me Ü

Getting Ready –

Carved gourd. Painted with acrylics

For the holiday season which is right around the corner.  Hard to even think about Halloween with the temps in the 90’s and heat index in the 100’s!  Halloween gourds make so much sense here in Florida.   There are no guarantees that October is a cool temperature month and the real pumpkins don’t tolerate the heat so for those of us that are not really keen on the fake pumpkins we see at the craft stores a real gourd is a great alternative !
