A little sneak peek at Christmas
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas ?!
Florida Gourd Show 2023
One of the gourd masks I made for the auction at the Florida Gourd Show. This is the first time I have created a mask with “points” or “flaps” like those made for Carnevale in Venice. I had no patterns or instructions to create this, totally my own creation. Same for the mask below. Thanks for visiting my site !
Florida Fall, may not feel like fall but inside it looks like fall !
Merry Christmas !
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2022 !
Carnevale di Venezia !
Carnevale di Venezia is an annual festival held in Venice Italy every year, except this year of course. The festival is famous for the elaborate costumes and especially the ornate masks worn by everyone. This doll was created for a challenge for an art doll conference but due to the Covid pandemic the conference was held virtually so they did not include the challenge this year.
Because I had already started creating the doll I decided to finish her, she was so much fun to create. The armature for the doll is actually a gourd that I cleaned, cut, painted and glued to a wood base. I made the dress with a fabric I found at a clearance store that only cost one dollar. The fabric is such a beautiful color blue ! The arms and hands are fabric sculpted and the head is a gourd that I sculpted a face with paper clay and painted with acrylic paint. The hat is made with the blue fabric with lace fused to it and made into flower petals. The smaller masks are gourd pieces I cut and painted.
A fun piece to create even if the challenge was not held.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving !
