About Debra

A mixed media artist and decorative artist, there is not a technique or surface that does not interest me! I should probably be a little more focused but diversity in mediums, surfaces and techniques has kept my interest and creative process expanding over the years. Never one to sit still after art school I dabbled in glass etching in commercial buildings and residential homes. Until the birth of my first child, which way laid my art endeavors for nearly eleven years and I stumbled upon decorative painting. A way to channel my creative yearning even though I was too exhausted to actually "think". Following others drawing patterns and painting instructions decorative painting satisfied my muse until my children were older and I had more energy to devote to my art. Now with an empty nest and the down turn in the economy I have so much more time to entertain my muse with all sorts of creative energy! So stay tuned you never know what you find posted in my blog or for sale in the Etsy shop!

Christmas 2021

Santas and Ornaments

Some of my latest Christmas ornaments and a few Santas that I delivered for the Holiday Craft Show at the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery in Eau Gallie Florida. The First Friday Event is on November 5th from 5:30 to 8:30 and the show runs from November 5 through December until January 4th. Of course the gallery is closed Christmas Day. There are many artists that participate so it is always a good place to select gifts that are handmade and one of a kind for those special people on your list !

Boudoir doll ?

Well my latest doll, a 1930’s pattern for a boudoir doll doesn’t exactly look like a boudoir doll to me. The doll body and part of the face and outfit I made according to the pattern otherwise I was on my own. I originally wanted to follow the pattern exactly but honestly, there were not very good directions and I am not good at following a pattern exactly anyway, so after I made the body and used the drawing for the face I went on my merry way and created this doll the way I wanted her. She is a large doll, about 30 inches which is one of the largest dolls I have ever created.

I painted her face with acrylic paint and her Frizzle yarn hair was stitched on her head. Her pajamas/outfit was made with a vintage satin sheet and is so soft and luxurious. I painted her hands, partial arms and legs with a flesh color acrylic paint. Her shoes are also painted with a gold color acrylic paint.

All in all I am happy with her, if I ever decide to create another doll using this pattern there will be many changes ! Thanks for visiting !

The latest…

Doll that I created. She is an all cloth doll with a clay over cloth face. Her features have been hand painted with acrylic paints.. She sits a top a stand that I made with a pool noodle. I made all her accessories except the silk flowers.?
