\"Scherasade\"<\/a>Scheherazade<\/em><\/span>, an art doll I created for the Hoffman Fabric Challenge 2014 was chosen as the “best first time entry doll” for 2014.\u00a0 How exciting to have my doll\u00a0 place among some of the most talented and creative doll artists.\u00a0 According to the Hoffman Challenge website there were 58 entries for the art doll category, and nine winning categories.\u00a0 One of the judges for the dolls was Lauren Vlcek, an accomplished doll artist.\u00a0 Her dolls are amazing!<\/p>\n

The fabric collection for the challenge by Hoffman Fabrics is\u00a0 “Anise” and the “Indigo” fabric in the collection was the fabric chosen as the challenge fabric.\u00a0 My journey to create this doll started with a google search for the\u00a0 word “Anise” which is a girls name in Arabic, Persian and Iranian\u00a0 meaning “pleasant companion” like “love” – so, I thought of a beautiful girl with a very mid-eastern outfit.<\/p>\n

I created the body of my doll with a pattern from Patti Culea’s book Creative Cloth Doll Couture. \u00a0 Once the body of the doll was complete I went to work on designing her outfit,\u00a0 beginning with the harem pants in the beautiful Indigo pattern.\u00a0 As I was working with the indigo fabric I realized the design elements in this fabric were endless.\u00a0 I began fussy cutting every detail I began to see – flowers, butterflies, patterns in the circles-just endless.\u00a0 I really had so much fun creating the necklace, shoes, and head scarf with all the fussy cuttings.\u00a0 I have lots leftover to make even more beautiful accessories for dolls, so the Indigo fabric may be seen often in my next creations.\u00a0 I just\u00a0 love the fabric<\/p>\n
