“Dear Prudence”

Dear Prudence 3I just received my latest issue of Art Doll Quarterly and there she is, on page 71,  my entry for the song doll character challenge – “Dear Prudence”.  Art Doll Quarterly always features some of the most creative and world renowned doll artists and to have some of my dolls published in the same magazine is an honor!

The song Dear Prudence is one of my favorites on the Beatles’ White album.  After some research I found that in the 1960’s the Beatles and the Farrow sisters, Mia and Prudence, went to India to study Transcendental Meditation.  Prudence was so serious about meditating that she found little time for enjoyment.  So, John Lennon was asked to encourage Prudence to “come out to play” thus the song – “Dear Prudence” .

Prudence is the first ever cloth art doll I have made.  Her body was created modifying  some of the doll patterns in the Patty Medaris Culea book, Creative Cloth Doll Faces.  After assembly she was hand painted with acrylic paints, her hair was created using “Lil’Loopies”, and her dress was made with cotton gauze fabric I had from long ago.  The cushion she is sitting on was created with a vintage scarf I had that is also cotton gauze from India.

She was so much fun to create and to have her published is a dream come true!

Thanks for visiting my site !
