Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty

I know it sounds absolutely insane to say that gourds tell us what they want to be – but, honestly, it does seem to happen.  This particular gourd I had started working on was going to be something completely different, it sat in my studio for at least two years partially completed until a few weeks ago when I suddenly realized there was a Humpty Dumpty begging to appear !   Once I started sculpting the face with paper clay – Humpty Dumpty took shape.  His arms and legs are fabric sculpted, painted with gesso and a stiffening medium.  His entire body, the gourd and limbs were covered with a texture medium which gives, especially on the gourd, an eggshell like surface.  He was painted with acrylic paint and sealed with varnish.  The “wall” is actually a block of wood that I painted with faux bricks.  So much fun to create this guy – now I can’t decide if I should take him to the gallery or just hold on to him for a little while ….

Thanks for visiting, please leave a comment I would love to know what you think about Humpty Dumpty !
